It is not permitted to hold love feasts, as they are called, in the Lord’s Houses, or Churches, nor to eat and to spread couches in the house of God.

Couches were used during meals, but in an effort to remove all possible unseemly furnishings, they were removed to allow the building and congregants a spiritual and dignified look.
