James MacDonald on Songs They Don't Sing at His Church

I respect James MacDonald's for his teaching ministry.  Here is something else deserving of respect.

  1. We get his weekly "Walk in the Word' _ good stuff.

I have to agree with him 100% on his song choices. I'd add some others - don't sing songs with poor doctrine.
    ("In the Garden," e.g.)

  2. I had a couple friends take issue the comment he made about not singing songs that dwelt on the self. Well-meaning brothers bent over backwards defending personal experience and subjectivism, attempting to use the psalms to bolster their argument. I pointed out that even the most personal psalms had God at the center, not self.

  3. Unfortunately, most of the contemporary songs are all about emotionalism and self.
